My top 10 photos of 2016
Annually I easily capture tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of photos. Some of them for clients, others for my personal use.
For me, what makes a photo one of my favorites is much more than just the finished product. More often it is the story behind the image. With that in mind, here are my top 10 of 2016.
10 — All-American
Grace is one of the most patriotic young adults you will ever meet. Her brother Zach, a Marine, lost his life in Afghanistan in 2010. (More in photo #3)
When we brainstormed locations for her senior photos, we realized the perfect spot was just down the road from her house. St. Ann School sets hundreds of large American flags in the parking lot of Steuben Trust, making the Field of Honor.
The day of her senior photos was the day the flags were scheduled to be removed following Veterans Day. Luckily we got there just in time to snap a few photos.
Wearing her brother's dog tags, Grace was right at home in a sea of American Flags.
9 — Love will keep you warm
You would never know it by looking at them, but Jamie and Kevin had their engagement photos done on a brutally cold, windy fall day.
Their love kept them warm as the autumn leaves fell around them during their two hour shoot in Arkport, NY and Canisteo, NY.
They are naturals in front of the camera and I am very happy with how their engagement photos turned out and am very excited for the wedding!
8 — Stolen Kisses
These two are absolutely adorable.
I was taking photos of their children frolicking at Kanakadea Park in Almond, NY this fall and every time I glanced over at them, they were hugging, holding hands, and kissing.
Such a sweet and honest moment.
It is always the moments between the posed shots that end up being my favorite.
7 — Wrapped around her finger
These two have my heart.
Even though this is a personal photo, I had to add it to my list of favorites.
My boyfriend was walking his daughter across the street toward Canisteo-Greenwood High School for her first-ever dance recital.
This image says a world about the two of them.
He is a tough, tattooed man's man to most, but this is who he really is — world's greatest daddy to his princess.
She is the epitome of Daddy's Little Girl.
6 — The look of pure love
"You know how the bride makes her entrance and everybody turns to look at her? That’s when I look at the groom. Cause his face says it all you know? The pure love there." — 27 Dresses
Need I say more?
5 —One spoiled pup
This whole session I felt like I was taking photos of loving parents with their toddler.
Squiggy is one spoiled pup, as every dog should be.
Herecently spent his first Christmas in his forever home. His parents adopted him as a puppy, suffering from severe mange and a skin infection, and have since nursed him back to health.
He is clearly loving life as the winery dog at Wild Brute Winery.
4 — Love at the Lake
Sometimes photos aren't always as they seem.
This composite photo is actually three different images stitched into one.
The first is of Adam and Nichole at The Lake Lodge, in Alfred, NY. The other two images were made with the help of their awesome bridal party in total darkness with a bunch of sparklers.
This was a super fun night with great group of people.
3 — Love is in the eyes
Six years ago, Anne lost her husband, Zach, in Afghanistan.
Since then she has fallen in love with another amazing man.
There was a great sense of peace during Anne and Brent's first dance at the Corning Country Club— I am certain everyone in the room felt it.
One look into Anne's eyes and the love and happiness came through loud and clear.
2 — Welcome to the world
When my friend Andrea told me she didn't want a maternity session, but wanted me to take pictures of her son being born instead, I didn't know what to say.
I am always up for new experiences and ended up agreeing to capture the moment.
I am SO glad I did.
I am now hooked and would love to do more in the future.
Having a photographer in the delivery room is certainly not for everyone, but for those open to the idea, it is a great way to allow you family to experience the magical moment without having to be in the room.
1 Love is love
In another first, 2016 gave me the opportunity to do my first same-sex engagement photos (with a wedding to follow in 2017).
The love is apparent in this image that has me excited for their big day in the fall.
Two beautiful women, their awesome daughter in a gorgeous location... lots to look forward to!
